Project Summary
Led an extensive inventory analysis project for Carbon Black Cloud (CBC), employing a comprehensive UX research and product design approach to enhance the inventory management system. This project epitomized the integration of in-depth user research with innovative product design strategies to address complex challenges in inventory management..
My Role
- Research Design and Execution: Devised and implemented a robust UX research framework, encompassing qualitative methods like inventory workshops, in-depth interviews with over 40 internal stakeholders across various departments, heuristic evaluations, and reviews of existing user experience research and documentation. Emphasized gathering diverse perspectives to gain a holistic understanding of inventory management challenges and opportunities.
- Data Synthesis and Analysis: Utilized a unique ‘Code Book’ approach for efficient categorization and analysis of a vast set of unstructured data. This involved breaking down information into manageable snippets, each coded for easy retrieval and cross-referencing, enabling a comprehensive thematic analysis of user needs, pain points, and system interactions.
- Discovery and Ideation: Orchestrated the discovery phase, crucial in framing the inventory management problems and gathering initial insights. Facilitated brainstorming sessions and conceptual wireframing, focusing on identifying low-hanging fruit and long-term visionary solutions without direct user input, to explore the problem space innovatively.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Managed a dynamic participant selection process, starting from initial workshop attendees to expanding through referrals, ensuring a wide range of inputs and perspectives. Conducted follow-up interviews for new information and confirmation of understanding, fostering an environment of continuous feedback and collaborative solution-finding.
- Strategic Output Creation: Developed various strategic outputs, including a comprehensive summary document, data visualizations, conceptual wireframes, and spreadsheets, to trigger conversation and validate findings. These artifacts were instrumental in facilitating discussions and aligning stakeholders with the project goals.
Project Impact
The project significantly contributed to a deeper understanding of inventory and asset management within CBC. It highlighted key areas for improvement, identified user needs and desires, and laid the groundwork for developing strategies that address pain points effectively. The comprehensive nature of this research and the methodological rigor applied were pivotal in shaping product design decisions and future enhancements to the CBC inventory system.
