Carbon Black Cloud (CBC) Advanced Remediation feature
2023-24, VMware Carbon Black (In development)

Project Summary
During alert triage the only method users had for manual intervention on assets was through CBC’s Live Response feature, which operated on a single device. Remediating one device at the time could be time consuming and arduous if more than one asset if affect. Customers needed a robust remediation service that could carry out scripted remediation actions on multiple devices from a single starting point and provide a clear feedback on the initiated actions.
My Role
- UX Lead, collaborating with UX Content and UX Research
- Based on user interviews I documented the expected workflows and then identified the interfaces needed to complete those steps
- Conducted a group evaluation of user stories against our existing persona resulting in:
- User story refinement
- the identification of design opportunities
- the identification of overlooked user stories
- Created prototypes for user research and observed research sessions
- Conducted design workshops to validate user needs and workflows, to solve challenges around multi-factor authentication and feature security, and to position the feature for market
- Created static, annotated wireframes for development
- Maintained project management information for UX Team in confluence
- Identified metrics and created a measurement strategy
- Lead to a deeper understanding of the feature by project management and development
- Lead to updates to the technical documentation
- Identified multiple intersections points and dependencies with other system features
Challenges
I inherited the project from another designer. I found that the initial designs were based on minor modifications to the existing system and did not take into account the full scope of the intended feature. I had to back-track the design process and reengage PM and development to redirect the effort.
